We are in our learning stage
13:12
Optimistic Art Projects is co-producer of Lamine Sonko project 13:12. This project is being strategically designed for longevity. A new and innovative cross art-form piece, the work explores the intersection of music + science + culture. Lamine is pushing boundaries to create a new language for connection. This language is felt through the fusing of genres of West African (Kora, Sabar drums), contemporary European classical (Piano, Cello) and jazz (Guitar). The musical works interwoven with sound design, 3D projection mapping and 2D animations ignites the senses for believing in universal connection.
As a Griot (culture keeper), Lamine draws ancient knowledge of cosmology, mathematics, time and space to create new intercultural experiences that raises consciousness and activates harmony.

Business start-up 2016-18
Operating ground roots style we first managed artist bookings and in doing so we discovered the complexity of the wicked problems to be solved in terms of Artist sustainability. We operated in an agile way embarking on a journey of discovery. Key achievements include:
- Major Festival bookings 2018 - Mofo, 2016 WOMADelaide | Denmark Festival of Voice | Mullum Music Festival | Global Rhythms
- 2018 co-produced Afro-Frequency Tour two headline acts - Brisbane BEMAC, Adelaide, Sydney, Melbourne
- 2017-18 Developed project strategy for funding and administrated Australian Arts Council grant. Stablised lead artist income through to creative phase 2018 - $18k. The project engaged a creative team of 10 people, paying professional rates to commission artist to create new works. Produced cultural assets - 5 multi-genre songs, 1 spoken word, 6 matching visual artworks. From a civil society perspective the artistic theme was based on exploring feelings related to 'Culture Shock' especially for those navigating Australian culture while remaining true to traditional cultures.
- 2017-18 Established professional development opportunities for lead artist with Melbourne University Social Equity Institution, Adelaide Cabaret Festival.
- 2016 supported a small number of emerging African Australian artists with bookings, including public speaking and school workshops
